If you've read my roadblocks and back story sections, and if you know anything about building or even riding a motorcycle, you will see just how important a good plan is. Because a motorcycle is such a compact vehicle and because every item works inconjuction with something else, changing even where the kick stand is placed also means relocating the exhaust and modifying the frame. So unless each item is thoroughly thought out, it could quickly become a very expensive boat anchor.

So I am looking at options and asking for advice from some of the experts on the subject. The ultimate goal is to get back on two wheels and once again do something that the doctors say I should not be able to do any longer due to my disability.

Currently the plan is to either buy a complete bike that is close to what I need/want and modify it by relocating the kisk stand location as well as the exhaust and the other things a person with my limitations will need to have, or buy part by part what I would like to have and assemble it as I go. Both options will cost about the same but by buying part by part I can spread out the cost over a longer time period. By purchasing a complete running bike that just needs to be modified may cost more up front (I'm a broke gimp remember) but it would be faster and keep my wrenches turning without much down time waiting. It's a toss up.

Currently (as of Nov. 03) I am still in the planning and research stage. I have found some helpful sites on the internet that I am learning a lot from like the National Association for Bikers with a Disability and AdaptiveMotorcycles.com. So I do know that I am not alone in this quest. One of the other great places I spend most of my on-line time is at eBay. I know that it is just a matter of time before I find just the right part at just the right price. The biggest hurdle is not that I can't find the right engine at a price I may be able to afford. The problem is shipping. For some reason I can find the engine but it is always on the other side of the country and the shipping cost is more than the price of the engine. So I'll keep looking for that perfect part that is also close enough to go pick up.

Since I am working under a huge budget there will be long periods of time between updates to this site since there will be long periods of time between extra money to buy parts. If you would like to be alerted when an update is made to this site let me know. Just drop me an email at mikemann05@yahoo.com
